St Pats Old Boys win the 2023-24 BurMac Bonnor Cup

St Pats Old Boys have won their third Bonnor Cup title in 6 seasons in emphatic fashion with their 77 run victory over perennial Bonnor Cup powerhouse, Cavaliers.

Going into the match, the two teams had met twice previously in the competition

decider, with Cavaliers coming out on top in 2019-20 and St Pats Old Boys winning in 2021-22.

St Pats Old Boys captain, Adam Ryan won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first on a Wade Park pitch ready-made for runs.

When Harry Pearce dismissed ACT representative, Nic Broes with his first delivery off the second over of the match, Bailey Brien walked to the crease to join his younger brother Cooper. Less than 10 overs later when Cooper exited for 78, the pair had put on a neat 100 run partnership to have their team at 2-105 in the 11other over. The Cavaliers bowlers clawed back some ground from there, as Saints finished on 7-172 after their 20 overs. Bailey Brien finished with 58, run out off the last ball of the innings.

Bailey Ferguson (2/33) and Charlie Green (2/39) were the multiple wicket takers for Cavaliers.

Cavaliers also lost an early wicket, with the wicket of Ferguson falling with the score on 11. There was no big partnership for the maroons though, with the Saints bowlers restricting the runs and taking regular wickets. Nic Broes (3/20), Ben Parsons (2/26), Hugh Parsons (2/16) and Connor Slattery (2/1) all got in on the act in a good all round bowling effort as Cavaliers were bowled out for 95 in the 16th over.

Cooper Brien was named player of the match.

Bailey Ferguson was awarded the Carl Sharpe Medal as the player of the series.
