The finalists of this seasons Bonnor Cup T20 competition have been determined with St Pats Old Boys set to play Cavaliers in next Friday's decider.
In the first semi final played Friday 9 February, after losing an early wicket Cooper Brien (54) and Bailey Brien (21) put on 70 for the 2nd wicket to help push their team towards a good total. The Rugby bowlers fought back to slow the run rate with Saints finishing 7/124 off their 20 overs. Tait Borgstahl picked up 3/21 to be the pick of the Rugby bowlers. Rugby Union were well on their way to achieving the win at 2/70, but the loss of Ryan Peacock's wicket triggered a mini collapse for the Bulldogs who were eventually bundled out for 106 in the 19th over. Bailey Brien backed up his work with the willow, taking 4/6 while Jay Webber, who claimed the wickets of Peacock, Marty Jeffrey and Jameel Qureshi, finished with 3/10 off his 4 overs and was named player of the match.
Rain delayed the start of last night's second semi final with the match reduced to a 16 overs per side contest. Once the rain had passed, CYMS won the toss and elected to bowl first. Cavaliers built a total of 114 to defend thanks to Rory Kalnins (40), Bailey Ferguson (26) and Hugh Middleton (26no). Spinners Brad Thomas (2/20) and Rory Daburger (2/16) were the pick of the CYMS bowlers.
Cavaliers then used Tom Blowes with the new ball to great effect, taking 3/30 off 4 overs in removing 3 of the CYMS top order. The Cavaliers seamers (Charlie Greer with 2/15 and Josh Ward with 2/17) then finished the job as CYMS were restricted to 107 off their allotted overs. Skipper Tom Belmonte top scored for CYMS with 25, while Charlie Tink (20), Rory Daburger (18) and Joey Coughlan (17) also contributed. Kalnins was named player of the match.
